Decision:

To allocate a set budget to provide stone armour bank protection to ECC recreational land at Duckes Marsh following the partial collapse of the neighbouring St James’s Weir. Funding will be allocated from capital funds assigned to the Turf Locks Pier head repair which will be delayed until the next financial year.

Reasons for the decision:

St James’s Weir had partially collapsed and is likely to deteriorate further. The deflection of water over the collapsed section of weir has caused extensive erosion to ECC land and resulted in part of our riverbank slumping into the river. Further and more substantial loss is expected without action.

Alternative options considered:

·         Do nothing – erosion and loss of recreational land as well as potential reputational damage

·         Sheet Piling – a more permanent solution but at a much higher cost
