Freedom of the City

The meeting has been convened in accordance with Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972 for the purpose of transacting the following business:

 

To pass the following resolution:

Freedom of the City

 

 

RESOLVED that, in pursuance of its powers under Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972, the Council do confer on Councillor David John Morrish Freedom of the City Status in recognition of his eminent service to the City of Exeter as a City Councillor for twenty eight years and as part of his 50 years continuous local government service in Exeter, during which time he keenly supported and promoted the interests of the City”.

 

[Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972 provides that the foregoing honour may be conferred by resolution of the Council passed by not less than two thirds of the Members voting thereon, at a meeting specially convened for the purpose.]

Minutes:

 

RESOLVED that, in pursuance of its powers under Section 249 (1) of the Local Government Act 1972, the Council do confer on Councillor David John Morrish Freedom of the City Status in recognition of his eminent service to the City of Exeter as a City Councillor for twenty eight years and as part of his 50 years of continuous local government service in Exeter, during which time he keenly supported and promoted the interests of the City.

 

Members indicated their great appreciation and gratitude for Councillor Morrish’s long and dedicated service to the council and the residents of both Heavitree and  the rest of the City.  In reply, Councillor Morrish spoke of his immense satisfaction over the years in serving the residents of Exeter alongside his council colleagues
