The decision was made for the following reasons:
(Including instruction of Legal) on taking a 2 year lease of a 7-bed HMO in Mary Arches to use to accommodate homeless people. This is a more cost effective way of fulfilling this housing need than the use of commercial hotels and B&Bs which result in a higher net cost to the Council’s budget.
Purchasing suitable property and using hotel accommodation.
The purchase of property is still under consideration but does not fulfil the immediate pressing need. Hotel accommodation is more expensive. Housing management of the property will be delivered by Gemma Livingstone Holding Ltd and is included alongside the market rent within the total annual lease price as per above. This therefore means the Council does not need to directly recruit additional officer time to undertaken responsibility for housing management duties.
