Decisions:

The Acting Head of Estates Services presented the report to consider the options for the Exeter Livestock Centre from April 2012 when the current Market Auctioneers agreement expires and to determine the future of the facility. He outlined to Members the background to the current facilities and operation, the premises condition, the staffing establishment, budgetary position and local livestock market issues.

 

Members discussed the current use and the important role the livestock market had in the local farming community. They acknowledged the need for any future lease to ensure flexibility.

 

Scrutiny Committee – Economy considered the report at their meeting of 20 January 2011 and their support was noted. 

 

RESOLVED that:-

 

(1)        the Head of Estates Services be authorised, in consultation with the Portfolio Holder (Economy and Tourism), to negotiate terms for a ten year lease for the operation of Livestock Markets from April 2012; and

 

(2)        should it be required, the Acting Head of Estates Services be authorised to undertake a formal tendering process.
