Apologies for absence were received from Councillors Ashwood, Baldwin, Gottshalk, the Deputy Lord Mayor, Keen, Lamb, Morris, Wardle and Wood.

Freedom of the City - Mr Ron Crabb BEM

To pass the following resolution:-

 

“RESOLVED that, in pursuance of its powers under Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972, the Council do confer on Mr Ron Crabb BEM Freedom of the City Status in recognition of his outstanding service to the City Exeter and the community of Exeter, in a professional, charitable and personal capacity and in acknowledgement of his contribution as a Football League Referee, his outstanding service in promoting the city, his support for charities and as mentor to Marines at Lympstone.”

 

[Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972 provides that the foregoing honour may be conferred by resolution of the Council passed by not less than two thirds of the Members voting thereon, at a meeting specially convened for the purpose.] 

 

 

Minutes:

The Leader moved the recommendation that Mr Ron Crabb be awarded the honour of Freedom of the City in recognition of his outstanding service to and promotion of the City of Exeter and the Community; in acknowledgement of his contribution as a Football League Referee; his dedication whilst working at the Exeter Prison; his outstanding service in promoting the city during his time as Mace Sergeant and his support for charities as well as being a Mentor to the Royal Marines at CTCRM, Lympstone.

 

Councillor Thompson seconded the recommendation.

 

RESOLVED that, in pursuance of its powers under Section 249 of the Local

Government Act 1972, the Council do confer on Mr Ron Crabb BEM Freedom of the City Status in recognition of his outstanding service to the City Exeter and the community of Exeter, in a professional, charitable and personal capacity and in acknowledgement of his contribution as a Football League Referee, his outstanding service in promoting the city, his support for charities and as mentor to the Royal Marines at Lympstone.
