Honorary Alderman

RESOLVED that in pursuance of its powers under Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972, the Council do confer the on the following, the title of Honorary Alderman, in recognition of their eminent services to Exeter City Council during the period they were a Member of the Council.

 

Richard Arthur Branston

 

[Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972 provides that the foregoing honour may be conferred by resolution of the Council passed by not less than two thirds of the Members voting thereon at a meeting specially convened for the purpose.]

 

 

Minutes:

Councillor Vizard moved and Councillor Ketchin seconded the recommendation that Richard Arthur Branston be conferred the title of Honorary Alderman, in recognition of his eminent services to Exeter City Council during his period serving as a Member of the Council.

 

Councillor Vizard described Richard Branston as a fantastic servant of the public and noted that he left a legacy of additional lighting in Belmont Park as the last of many achievements.  He added that Richard was a truly modest man who was kind and great company.

 

In support of the recommendation Councillor Fullam noted that Richard had contributed to all debates without antagonism and Councillor Foale added that residents of the Newtown area will speak of him for years to come.

 

RESOLVED that, in pursuance of its powers under Section 249(1) of the Local Government Act 1972, the Council do confer on the following the title of Honorary Alderman, in recognition of his eminent services to Exeter City Council during the period he was a Member of the Council.
