Covid-19 Update

On 21 April 2020, Full Council agreed to make changes to the Constitution in order to put in place contingency arrangements designed to allow the Council to continue to function if staff are absent as a result of the Corona Virus pandemic.

The supplementary document detailing the agreed changes can be found in the constitution.

Exeter City Council agreed a new constitution in May 2001 which sets out how the Council operates, how decisions are made and the procedures which are followed to ensure that these are efficient, transparent and accountable to local people. Some of these processes are required by the law, while others are a matter for the Council to choose.

The Articles of the Constitution set out the basic rules governing the Council's business. More detailed procedures and codes of practice are provided in the other parts of the document.
